It has been an eventful month here at PTS! And even more so overall in the gaming sphere. With many upcoming releases, the controversial announcement of The Game Awards nominees and the less controversial farewell from the creator of Little Big Planet, there is a lot to catch up on in the month.
To begin with, let's go through the games you can expect to receive in December with the new PS Plus line up and upcoming releases.
December Releases:
Dec 6th - Marvel Rivals Dec 9th - Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Dec 10th - Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2
Dec 19th - Alien: Rogue Incursion
Massive titles being released next month. With a personal favourite among old PlayStation fans with the remaster of Soul Reaver. I for one am intrigued by how Indiana Jones will play and what results MachineGames can create with such a beloved and interesting character, hopefully the story can rival those of the classic movies such as Temple of Doom or the Last Crusade!
PS Plus This Month!
PS Plus has a variety this month with the games and their respective platinum. To begin with, we have It Takes Two. No doubt you have already heard about this inciting coop puzzle adventure game, and now it is coming to you for free to finally play if you have not already. The platinum is very easy, taking around 12-15 hours to complete (that is unless your partner to tackle these trophies with are less... skilled). A very chill and relaxing experience, with a great story, and without much difficulty at all.
Next, we have Aliens: Dark Descent. This is a large strategy game that with recent patches has become easier to obtain all trophies within one play through, but we recommend two. This platinum is a bit longer ranging between 45-55 hours now, but if you can get together some friends it is a great and enjoyable game to play.
Finally, we have TemTem. We had not heard of this game prior to the PS Plus release, but upon looking into the platinum itself it can be obvious to see why. The style and art design are by far what catches our eyes the most, looking rather beautiful and relaxing, however if you wanted to achieve the platinum for this title it will take around 150-200 hours! Why not have a go of it yourself, then allow us to clean it up for you if its too much?
News
This time around, I want to start the news section with important announcements with game trophies and server closures. On the 18th February 2025, Hoods and Outlaws will have their server closure alongside Realm Royale on the 17th of the same month. Battlefield 4 servers on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will also be closing going into next year, with Fifa 22 following suite. Make sure to attain those titles whilst possible if you have them lingering on your trophy list.
With server closures out of the way, there are a couple trophies that we have stumbled upon this month that also have bugs where they are currently unobtainable. These are "Rush Hour" for Black Ops 6 for getting a double kill with the RCXD and A Superb Keeper for Quidditch Champions for performing a power save. Both of these can't be obtained currently and have been like it for a couple of weeks now. The community have been making both companies aware so within a couple more weeks we can potentially see them fixed and the trophies back to being earned.
Now for the real news! The PlayStation Pro released this month and it has been a blast to play with and see games perform and play at much higher frame rates and graphical design. It is a shame to see this upgrade not in place for all titles, but is a welcoming addition to our gaming in the meantime. If you need a new PS5 console, consider upgrading to the Pro, but if you're original 5 is still holding strong I personally do not see the urgent need to upgrade if you do not want too. Unfortunately, the PS5 Pro did bring us some concerns. With the disk drive being separate being one of the problems we had on the announcement, it seems that there is no option for uploading your save from the original PS5 to the PS5 Pro without the use of PS Plus. For games like Bloodborne that uploading saves can shave 2 full play through from the game, this comes as a huge disappointment and hopefully one that is changed within the coming months. Be sure to keep that in mind if you decide to upgrade!
Furthermore, Sony announced they would no longer be forwarding games like Concord after its colossal downfall. Personally, I think this decision is great as hero shooters are very hit or miss with the general gaming world, and trying to push forward a new and innovative gamemode to replace it would be ideal. It does leave us wondering where Marathon will end up once the Bungie title finally releases.
Finally, moving onto Microsoft. It is a sad, sad time as the avatar software will no longer be supported, resulting in thousands of sleeping avatars never to wake again. Truly a golden era being put to rest!
Hoping everyone enjoys the short updates to the gaming world and future games to look forward too. This Christmas season we can all enjoy relaxing and catching up on those platinums we have been ignoring; and maybe celebrate the Christmas with new consoles?
